Terms

Last updated: 6 May 2026.

This page is in English. Translated legal text is intentionally not provided in v1 — translation nuance errors in legal copy are not something automated review can reliably catch. We will revisit when a professional translation review is in place.

1. The agreement

By installing or using Echobox (the "App") you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the App.

2. Licence

Echobox is proprietary software, licensed (not sold). Subject to your compliance with these Terms and the End-User Licence Agreement (EULA) shipped with each install, OMBS grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Echobox on devices you own or control. You may use Echobox for any personal listening — at home, at work, in the car — including the use of the free tier indefinitely.

You may not copy or redistribute the App, sell, sublicense, rent, lease, lend, or transfer your licence; modify, translate, or create derivative works; reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code or underlying ideas, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation; or remove, alter, or obscure any copyright or proprietary notice. You may not use the App to develop a competing product or service.

Echobox includes open-source components from third parties, listed at Third-party software. Those components are licensed to you under their own licences, which prevail for the relevant component if they grant broader rights than these Terms.

3. Free tier, paid features, and subscriptions

Echobox has a free tier and paid tiers. The model varies by platform.

Android (Google Play)

The base Echobox app is a free download from the Google Play Store. The free tier provides core playback, library management, and a curated subset of features that you can keep using indefinitely with no subscription.

Optional paid features are unlocked by purchasing a separate companion app on the Google Play Store ("Echobox Pro Unlocker", or similarly named). The Unlocker is a one-time purchase processed by Google Play; we receive a purchase token to validate that you own it. While the Unlocker is installed and validated, the base app unlocks the full feature set. The Unlocker is tied to the Google account that bought it and can be installed on any device using that account, in line with Google Play's standard "buy once, install on multiple devices under the same account" model.

Refunds for the Unlocker are governed by Google Play's refund policy (typically 48 hours after purchase) and any rights you have under applicable consumer law.

iOS (App Store)

On iOS, the full feature set is available as a recurring subscription via the App Store, processed by Apple. The subscription auto-renews monthly until you cancel; you can cancel any time from your Apple ID account settings without losing access until the end of the current billing period. Pricing, taxes, free trials (if any), and refund eligibility are governed by your App Store account terms and the EU/UK consumer-protection regimes that apply where you are.

Your use of Echobox on Apple devices is governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (LAEULA), which is delivered with every iOS app and which you accept the first time you install. These OMBS Terms cover everything outside Apple's licence (privacy, our website, cross-platform behaviour, the desktop subscription); where the LAEULA and these Terms address the same point on iOS, the LAEULA prevails for the iOS install.

Desktop (Windows, Linux, macOS)

On desktop platforms the full feature set is available as a recurring subscription purchased directly from us via our payment processor. The subscription auto-renews monthly until you cancel. We will email a renewal reminder before each renewal, in line with the UK Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 / equivalent EU rules.

Where required by your local consumer-protection law, you may cancel a desktop subscription within 14 days of purchase for a full refund, provided you have not started using the paid features (UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013; equivalent EU directives). Once you have started using the paid features and confirmed your consent to begin, the right of cancellation is lost. Cancellation after the cooling-off window stops auto-renewal but does not refund the current billing period.

Cross-platform entitlement

Each platform's purchase or subscription is independent. A Google Play Unlocker purchase does not grant access on iOS or desktop, and an iOS or desktop subscription does not unlock features on Android. If you use Echobox across multiple platforms, you'll need a corresponding entitlement on each.

How to cancel

  • iOS subscription: Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Echobox → Cancel Subscription. You retain access until the end of the current billing period.
  • Desktop subscription: use the cancel link in any renewal-reminder email or write to privacy@ombs.io. We confirm cancellation by email; access continues until the end of the current billing period.
  • Android Unlocker: nothing to cancel — the Unlocker is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. Removing the Unlocker companion app reverts the base app to the free tier.

Lapse and reinstatement

If a subscription lapses or the Unlocker is uninstalled, your locally-stored library, settings, and personal data remain on your device — paid features simply revert to the free-tier subset until the entitlement is renewed or restored.

4. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the legality of the audio files you load into the App. The App plays files you provide; we do not vet them for copyright, ownership, or licensing.
  • If you connect the App to third-party services (Subsonic-compatible servers, Last.fm, ListenBrainz, LRCLIB, MusicBrainz, iTunes Search, UPnP/DLNA/Cast renderers, Bose SoundTouch devices, etc.), your use of those services is governed by their own terms. We are not a party to that relationship.
  • You will not use the App to attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system or service, to circumvent rate limits or anti-abuse measures, or to violate the law of the jurisdiction in which you reside.
  • You will not attempt to defeat the entitlement check (for example, by tampering with the Unlocker check on Android, or by interfering with subscription validation).

Hearing-safety warning. Listening to music at high volumes for prolonged periods can permanently damage your hearing. We recommend keeping volume at moderate levels and taking regular breaks, especially when using headphones or in-ear monitors. The App's high-resolution playback chain is capable of higher peak output than typical media players — this is a feature for accurate reproduction, not an invitation to push past safe levels.

5. Pre-release software and no warranty

Echobox is currently in pre-release form. The Software may contain known and unknown bugs, incomplete features, or behaviour that changes between versions. By using a pre-release build you acknowledge this and agree to provide good-faith feedback if you choose to. We will continue to ship updates that may add, change, or remove features without prior notice during the pre-release period.

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NONINFRINGEMENT. WE MAKE NO WARRANTY THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF SECURITY VULNERABILITIES. THIS DOES NOT EXCLUDE OR LIMIT ANY STATUTORY RIGHTS YOU HAVE AS A CONSUMER UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

6. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT WILL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. NOTHING IN THIS SECTION EXCLUDES OR LIMITS LIABILITY FOR DEATH OR PERSONAL INJURY CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE, FRAUD OR FRAUDULENT MISREPRESENTATION, OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE EXCLUDED OR LIMITED UNDER APPLICABLE LAW.

7. Privacy

Our handling of your data is described in the Privacy page, including the data flows for purchases and subscriptions. By installing or using the App you confirm that you have read and understood that disclosure.

8. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the App after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. Material changes will be flagged on this page and, where appropriate, surfaced inside the App.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in another jurisdiction, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in your local courts.

10. Miscellaneous

Entire agreement. These Terms (together with the EULA shipped with each install and the Privacy policy) form the entire agreement between you and OMBS regarding the App, and supersede any prior or contemporaneous agreement, oral or written.

Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if it cannot be so modified, severed; the remaining provisions remain in full force.

No waiver. A failure by either party to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of that right or provision in the future.

Force majeure. Neither party is liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond reasonable control, including acts of God, war, terrorism, civil unrest, government action, network or hosting-provider outages, third-party platform failures, pandemic, or natural disaster.

Assignment. OMBS may assign or transfer these Terms (in whole or in part) in connection with a corporate reorganisation, merger, sale, or transfer of substantially all of OMBS's assets. You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent.

Trademarks. "Echobox" and the OMBS logo are trademarks of OMBS. All other trademarks (Last.fm, ListenBrainz, LRCLIB, MusicBrainz, Apple, App Store, Google, Google Play, Bose, SoundTouch, Sentry, Cloudflare, Stripe, etc.) are the property of their respective owners.
